During her years at Grovedale, Khia was a tough and highly skilled opponent. Fortunately, in 2009, she made the move over to West and has been a much valued player ever since. Starting out in C Grade, this year Khia was selected as part of the B Grade squad and has more than proved she is worthy of such an opportunity. After taking a year off from the GFL in 2009, Kaitlyn made her debut at West this season, much to the excitement of the club, and Kaitlyn herself. Her biggest achievement in netball (so far) is representing Victoria in the U17 and U19 teams. Whenever she hits the court, Kaitlyn’s speed and agility leave spectators in awe and teammates and coaches delighted. Her energy supply seems endless and she often gives the illusion of floating in mid air when leaping for a pass. Kaitlyn is a much valued member of the A Grade team and the club itself.

Recruiting Leah from St Mary’s four years ago has proven to be a brilliant opportunity for GWSP. Her leadership on and off the court is commendable and, as well as boasting extreme knitting skills, Leah slides past her opponents with ease and is always positioning herself as a perfect option. GA/WA
Daughter of club legend Kevin Hannan and wife of current West football star Ben Rowe, Carrie has had no choice but to live and breathe the club all her life, and has loved every minute of it. In fact, it could be said that Mrs Rowe is the reason we are playing netball for such a great club today. In 2000, she entered a team into the Life Be In It competition and, after they were named premiers, GWSP became a team in the GFL in 2001. When pregnant with her gorgeous children Charli and Zeke, Carrie stopped playing but continued coaching. Her achievements are numerous: she is the only West netballer to have played in all grades over the years, including playing in a C Grade final and securing both a C Grade best and fairest and runner up best and fairest. Additionally, she has coached an U15 B team to a premiership, B Grade and D Grade to finals and has been named netball club person of the year. However, her greatest achievement was being awarded a Life membership in 2009 and we at the netball club could not think of anyone more deserving. Carrie has a natural netball brain and is a consistently tough and impressive on court, wowing everyone with her goaling accuracy and her drives. This year Carrie has taken on the role of netball club President, instilling her girls with her passion for the club and the game.

Since coming to West in 2004, Emily has racked up over 100 senior games. On top of this, she was B Grade captain for three years, snatched a couple of best and fairests and is our current vice-president (leaving behind the former roles of secretary, social representative and junior coach that she has enjoyed in the past). For season 2010, Em is sharing her time between A and B grade as circle defender. Her lightning fast reaction time has lead to countless intercepts and her quick feet allow how to regain position on her player with ease and move swiftly around the circle. The glue that held us all together for the beginning of the season, she is a great asset to West.

After beginning at West in 2004 and playing until 2006, during which time she was In 2004 she was an under 13s coach, committee member and recipient of the coach’s award for her team. Krystle left the club in 2007 to live in Melbourne and later Perth, where she played in the Perth Netball Association. At her time there she was awarded best and fairest, so West were very excited when Krystle decided to return this season. Currently playing D Grade, Krystle is also our Players Rep, a role she also took on in 2005. With her bubbly personality and contagious positivity, it is easy to see why she was appointed for this position. On the court, Krystle is a constant source of physical and vocal support to her teammates and her movement in the circle is effective and smooth. Whilst her goaling accuracy was already impressive at the start of the season, Krystle has somehow managed to improve out of sight in this regard, due to her perseverance and dedication.

This is her third year at West after moving from Lara and in her time at the club has picked up two best and fairest, as well as representing the GFL, Barwon Zone and Flyers teams – plus working hard to become a qualified umpire. To think that she is only at the beginning of what is sure to be a long and successful netball career is a credit to Holly and the dedication she shows to the sport.

A GWSP “prodigal daughter”, Annie played for the club in 2004 and 2005 before university commitments dragged her away. In 2005, she won the Best and Fairest award by a landslide, as well as vice-captaining her team for that year. After a troublesome appendix threatened to severly delay the start of her season Annie worked hard to overcome it, with great success. Despite her size, she is fierce and strong, pulling of classic intercepts with a great ability to read the play – a classic pocket rocket. As well as this, she offers great advice and encouragement to her teammates and is a true asset to D Grade.

While she easily adapts her skills to any position, she shines as a wing attack, easily snatching the centre pass, her positioning on, and feeding into the circle, commendable.
