Netball Match Day.........

15u Colac 24 to GWSP 23
We were extremely unlucky not to come away with a win this week, we had lots of chances but in true finals form, the pressure was immense and both sides made a lot of errors.  The game was very low scoring as a result of the defensive pressure from both teams and the final 30 seconds was intense.  A technical call with 15 seconds to go enabled Colac to take possession and score just before the final whistle.  Best players were Mary Waldron who was up against the League MVP, Kathryn Eastman and Steph Boyce.
What an amazing season the 15u girls have had!  A big disappointment to miss out on a GF by just 1 goal, but a massive congratulations to all the girls and their parents for the level of effort and commitment they have shown over the season.  Our goal was to make the top 5.  Once we made it we knew we were competitive against the rest of the top 5 and we gave it our best each week.  The girls are a fantastic bunch who never ever give up and it has been a pleasure coaching them.  I look forward to having most of them back again next year as we aim for the top.   Jill Leader
U17 Div 1 Preliminary Final V Colac
Congratulations Girls! The u17 girls took on Colac in an epic battle. They trailed most of the game by 2 to 3 goals – fighting constantly to stay in touch. There were some moments of brilliance, great intercepts and displays of great athleticism. Jess Leader showed her true colour – moving from GD to GA to WA – her diversity a real asset to the girls. Cassidy Nelson took control of the goal circle early – causing havoc for their GK. Bridget Byrne continued demonstrating her strengths in WD and GK – taking some fantastic intercepts. Katrina “Biscuit” Biscan took some early intercepts creating great opportunity for us in goals. Steph Shell managed to connect one end with the other – working tirelessly through the centre. Hollie popped some blinders into Cas, some blinder goals and rotated in the circle well. Molly and Keely rotated through the mid court – working hard to keep the pressure on all game. The ball heading our way in the dying seconds meant we were ever so close to an equalizer and forcing time on – but time was against us. We went down by a shattering 1 goal!!. You should all be so proud of your finals campaign – a marvelous effort. What a brave fight to the end. Bring on 2011!!! Maree Shell
A Grade St Mary's (43) defeated GWSP (41)
From the first whistle, it was clear why St Mary's and GWSP finished first and second in the A Grade competition this season. St Mary's got off to a flying start, scoring 6 unanswered goals. However, within minutes, West had turned the tables to take the lead. This continued to occur throughout the game, with West looking slightly more powerful heading into the final quarter. Great defence from Kerri Barr saw plenty of handy turnovers and superb drives from Kaitlyn Amor meant the ball was quickly and steadily moved down the court. Unfortunately, St Mary’s pressure defence forced too many mistakes from the West attackers and the confidence of St Mary's goalers meant St Mary's gained a small but vital lead in the dying minutes of the game. It was a disappointing end to a stellar season from the A Grade girls but to come so close to the top team in the competition is a great achievement in itself. Well done, ladies. Alice Eastman.
